Join us for a supportive discussion designed specifically for LGBTQ+ foster parents. This training will address the unique challenges faced by same-sex couples in the child welfare system, including navigating situations where birth families may not affirm their identity and confronting potential discrimination. Participants will leave with practical strategies and essential resources to build resilience and champion inclusivity on their foster care journey.

This session will be lead by Nitara Frost with Families Rising (formerly NACAC).

For 14 years, Nitara Frost has been dedicated to supporting families through her work at Families Rising. She collaborates with kinship, foster, and adoptive families throughout Minnesota, with a particular focus on supporting LGBTQIA2S+ parents and those raising LGBTQIA2S+ youth and young adults within these communities.

Drawing from extensive experience and insights gained from other families, Nitara understands the critical importance of parent-to-parent support—not only during the foster and adoption process but also throughout the parenting journey and into adulthood. Through interactions with her own children and other adoptees, she has developed a deep appreciation for the significance of adoptees’ voices. This ongoing learning shapes her approach, as she continues to adapt their parenting and expectations daily.
